To bring you back up after that last post, here is more recently unearthed hotness. Classic house, and from New Years 1993 no less. I love this era of house, and I'm happy to have found this tape. I'm also going to start scanning the actual tapes this stuff comes off of, just because it's funny to see them these days. [EDIT: I went back and scanned in some more tapes, so if you are into the whole historical thing, flip back through the posts]
So maybe a little morbid bit of a post for a music blog, but with the close of the year there are the stories out there about murder rates and crime. [Watching The Wire also seems to bring up these sort of discussions] There was a New York Times article about the 100+ murder rate in Newark, NJ - and how it was really high for 2006. Since I'm originally from Baltimore, [and used to hearing much higher numbers be considered 'bad'] I decided to look up a few stats. It turns out that with Newark's 101 and Baltimore's current 253, the rate based on population is almost identical. Too many all around then.......
These maps are pretty amazing:
Murders for 2006
All shootings [fatal and non-fatal] Maybe the bullet my parents pulled out of their roof is from one of these? A couple are pretty close to Harford and Cold Spring.

Shop Gentei party yesterday was hott - and it was mayhem til' they kicked us out at 2 - Scottie B rocked the place with his closing set. Haven't seen him DJ in a while, and it was pretty much perfectly selected and played. Club, to 80's, to a few house tracks on the ends. It's not always easy to keep the crowd that into it at 1:30am on a Sunday!
Gentei has some hot items in the shop for this fall - the selection of brands is crazy, and a lot of that stuff you won't find anywhere else in the states - including NYC. Tokyo style retail straight up, in Baltimore: super clean, and perfectly displayed. I've been to a lot of shops, in a lot of places, and this is one of the best out there...Has to be said!
I also decided to throw together a quick tape, really cuz I want to listen to these tracks on the ipod this week. I pretty much just went for it, so don't mind a few stray beats. Since I played Ministry's 'Halloween' in the set the other night, here are some other tracks to take you back to the days of Playschool (above 'The Rage' metal bar downtown on Calvert St), Meltdown, and the the all ages Sunday 'Progressive' nights in 90-92. They also did this at O'dells, but I don't remember what night. O'dells was the shit, too bad I couldn't get there too much before it closed...

Since the Gentei 'Meltdown' is at the classic Baltimore spot Orpheus, I dug up some old flyers to do a little reminiscing. These were some seriously good times 1991+ , and I am happy I got to experience it. I have a bunch of things scanned, and I'll post them up here.
Citrus Club, November 1992, Club Orpheus, Baltimore
This is the flyer for one of the first Citrus Club parties from November 1992, and the coveted membership card to get you in for free. This was thrown by Scott Henry every Friday.
Fever, November 1992, Club Paradox, Baltimore
This is the flyer (for the party) that put Baltimore on the map. Thrown by Charles Fields (DJ Feelgood, pre- DJ) and Scott Henry it was THE place to be every other Thursday. Paradox, actually, was the place to be almost every weekend night: Fever on Thursdays, KW Griff and Rod Braxton club nights on Friday, and Deep House on Saturday.
